Classification of Digital cameras
Digi cams can be classified into 6 types. Classification is based use,focus and price.
So the different types of Digital Camera are
1. Compact Digital Camera’s
2. Bridge Cameras
3. DSLR Camera’s
4. EVF
5. Digital Range Finders
6. Line Scan Camera
Now lets go through a brief idea on all type
1. Compact Camera
They are the most common types of Digi cams. Also known as “point and shoot” camera’s. They are small in size hence portable, handy and easy to use. As they are “basic” camera’s they only contain few features and their price is low compared to other models. Image sensors used has a small diagonal space of 6mm and crop factor of 6.
2. Bridge Camera’s
With same characteristics these camera’s are often mistaken for SLR camera’s which have different features. With a fixed lens, live preview, small image size, auto focus and Image stabilization they resemble SLR cameras in a large way but they operate much slower than the latter. Here shows a picture of the Bridge camera.
3. DSLR or Digital Single Lens Reflex camera
One of the high end camera in the market for an affordable price. These camera’s offer a very high picture quality even at dim lights. A DSLR is often preferred by professional’s bcz of its HQ and close to moment exposure with accurate framing. In 2008 an HD-DSLR is introduced in the market which offers HD video recording in addition to still photography.

4. EVF
An EVF is nothing but Electronic View Finder camera. Main advantage of an EVF over a DSLR is EVF offers good range. The main advantage of EVFs over SLRs is that they’re generally smaller, lighter, and self-contained, while offering a long range of focal lengths. Canon powershot IS and Fuji Finepix S9100 are some good EVF’s available in the market. Compared to an SLR cost of an EVF is always low.
5. Digital Range Finders
A range finder camera is for any one who wants a greater focus or a sharp focus.This camera has a range finder mechanism attached and that’s why the name. A pic of range finder is shown below.
6. Line Scan Camera
Its aim is to catch a high resolution image at a very high speed. This camera produces 1-Dimensional data which needs to be processed with help of a computer to make it 2-Dimensional.
