Essential Windows 7 applications you must have

Here I am listing some essential application that you must use on your Windows 7 to make it more useful, productive and beautiful. Lets start with some really cool free applications.

Well lets start with much needed photo editing application, an alternative for Photoshop.

1. GIMP

Although windows 7 comes with much upgraded paint software, it can never be compared with an application like Photoshop. And you know photoshop comes with a price tag. Here comes GIMP a free application that can almost be an alternative for photoshop. If you dont need professional requirements then GIMP can satisfy almost all your amateurish photo editing needs.

2. VLC Mediaplayer

VLC media player is one of the most useful application I have ever come across. You can practically do anything with this media player application. First advantage is you don’t need to download and install codecs for playing multiple formats. This player can handle almost all video and audio formats. Next big thing about VLC player is digital audio amplification. You can boost your volume upto 400% gain. Another thing I love about Vlc is  easy subtitle time delay adjustment. You can adjust delay while playing the movie by just using 2 key press. There are many good things about Vlc player. Just download and see :)

3. Mozilla Firefox

There are two browsers I would suggest you. Either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. I am a fan of both but I found Google chrome more technologically advanced. Chrome comes handy with slow Internet connections and some really cool features like Desktop chat notification.

I have written two posts about some useful extensions for firefox and extensions for Google Chrome

Well, please dont use the crappy Internet explorer that comes free with Widows 7, when there are plenty of free and technologically advanced softwares are available.

4. Picasa

We all love photos and share photos. Well, picasa is a free application to organise your photos and share it online with any one you want. A great application and great tool ever released by Google.

5. Ccleaner

Windows Vista is a hardware resource eater but Windows 7 is not that hungry. But still it uses really good resources and if you are on a low end hard drive you will experience low speed and performance. In order to deal with that you can use Ccleaner to clear all your junk files and save system resources for better usage and performance.

6. Adobe Reader

There is no other software that deals better with PDF’s. You must also install a browser plugin to deal with web PDF files in more effective way. If you install a browser extension of adobe reader, you can read PDF files on the web itself. You dont need to download that file to computer hardware and then open it for reading.

7. Recuva

Recuva is a free application for retrieving your deleted files. When you accidentally delete a file, it wont be deleted permanently. The space will be just marked as available for storage. When you install a new software or store some new files, the old space will be filled in. So you need to keep a recovery software ready prior to accidental lose of any file.
