How To: Add Internet Explorer to The Windows Vista Desktop
There is no simplified way to add the Windows Explorer icon to the Vista Desktop. The Computer, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel icons can be easily added. If you would like to add Internet Explorer icon to the desktop you can do it with a Registry registry alteration.
- Select the Windows Vista Start orb.
- Open the Run dialog box
- Type regedit in the run dialogue box and press Enter
- Navigate to the following registry key:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel
- Find the key named “{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}” on the right-hand side, and then set the value to 0.
- If that key is not found,then create a new DWORD 32-bit by right clicking in the key area
- Copy this as the key name including the brackets:{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}
- Close regedit
- Restart the computer
- Right click an empty area of your desktop and click “Refresh” from the resulting menu options.
- Internet Explorer should now appear on your Windows Vista desktop.
Note:
- Note that if you are using the classic start menu, you should create this value under the ClassicStartMenu key instead of the NewStartPanel key.
- Editing the registry can be very risky. A mistake could result in the re-installation of your operating system. Be sure to make a backup copy prior to making any changes.
