How to connect Dual/Multiple monitors on your PC/Laptop

Did you ever think of connecting two monitors to your computer? If you are using a laptop – why not connect one more display device and enhance the desktop real estate space? A “dual” monitor setup is advantageous in many many ways. You will be quite amazed to know how easy it is to connect two monitors to your computer. First of all lets have a look at the advantages of having two monitors.

Two monitors connected to a computer works as two different desktops. It is not a duplicate of the other. Icons and files in one monitor is entirely different from Icons/tabs/files in second monitors desktop. You can choose between two desktop screens while you moves files and shortcuts to your desktop. Another fact to keep in mind is that, different applications can be made active in two different desktops. Example: You can open your “Firefox” browser in one desktop and “MS Word” in another desktop – you got the idea? This can be of great use for professional especially content writers, programmers, graphic designers etc.  For home users – they can play a movie on one screen and do a “chat” ing on second screen. How cool is that?

Now lets take a look at:- How to setup dual monitors in Windows 7

I will say quite easy. Connect your second monitor to your laptop or PC. If  you are using laptop – connect using S-Video out or HDMI out or the conventional out port. If you are in a PC, see if your mother board has ports for two monitors or else connect using a video card. In any case connecting your second monitor is the first step. Now start your Windows. You have got two ways!

Press Windows button+P simultaneously and you will see sth like shown in picture below.

If you select “Duplicate” – you will get the same desktop on other monitor. If you select “Extend” – you will get two different desktops on two monitors. You can select one based on your requirements.

Now here is the other way to connect dual monitors in Windows 7:-

Right click on desktop-> select “screen resolution”

Now you will see a picture as shown below.

You will see tow screens named 1 and 2. You can select each of them one by one and configure them according to your choices. To make dual display active, you choose “duplicate” or “extend” from the drop down “multiple displays”. Thats all about it! How cool is that?
