The SuperFetch service in Windows Vista preloads your system’s memory with the applications that you use most often. Superfetch feature, in theory helps you because it will ‘learn’ your typical activities in terms of file and application access, then preconfigure the most commonly used apps in its memory on startup, making them much faster to access. But in practice, this works only on computers with more of 2GB of memory. If you have less than 2GB of physical memory this will leads to a lot of disk thrashing and sluggishness. There’s no hard evidence that enabling or disabling this service will increase performance in general, but if you open and close applications often you should definitely leave it alone. It tends to not work well with gaming, but can improve performance with business applications.Sometimes this can affect the performance of certain applications. If you are not happy with the startup speed of your Windows Vista machine, try disabling the Superfetch feature.
