How To: Disable System Beep In Windows Vista
System beeps are those sounds you hear when an error message or an information/warning message appears.One of the small but annoying things in Windows Vista is the fact that the System Beep is enabled by default.
If you want to get rid of the annoying system beep in Windows Vista, do any of the following methods:
Method 1: Through Windows Vista Registry
- Start the Windows Vista registry editor by clicking Start, then, Run, and then entering regedit.
- You’ll need to provide administrative confirmation if User Account Control(UAC) is turned on.
- Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound
- Find the “Beep” key on the right-hand side and change the value to “no“.
- Exit Windows Registry Editor.
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Method 2: Through Device Manager
- Go to your Windows Vista desktop and right click on the Computer icon.
- From the drop-down menu select Manage.
- In the Computer Management window go to System Tools -> Device Manager.
- You’ll need to provide administrative confirmation if User Account Control(UAC) is turned on.
- Now you will need to go to the View menu and select Show hidden devices.
- If you return to the Device Manager you will see a category of devices called Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
- Expand that list and select the Beep.
- Right click on the Beep and select Properties.
- In the Beep Properties window go to the Driver tab.
- From the Startup scroll down list, select Disabled and press OK.
At the next restart, the Windows Vista System Beep will be disabled.
