Microsoft Windows Vista has a new user interface system codenamed Avalon. This new user interface engine in Windows Vista greatly enhances the look by utilizing several cool looking 3D effects(like Aero Glass,Flip 3D etc).Windows Vista’s new user interface system, Avalon requires high system specifications in order to work, with the minimum requirements of at least 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor,1 GB (gigabyte) of system memory and a DirectX 9 compatible graphics accelerator processor card with a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM, installed with Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver.

To turn on this Windows Vista’s new user interface system, just execute c:\Windows\System32\UXSS.exe or enable and start the User Experience Session Management Service.

Aero Glass should be enabled by default in Windows Vista if your video card supports it. If you don’t have a supported graphic card then it won’t work. But,by a simple registry tweak you can enable Aero Glass Effect on unsupported Graphics Cards.

  • Type “regedit” in the Windows Vista Start Menu Search box or in Run dialog box and hit enter.
  • You’ll need to provide administrative confirmation if User Account Control(UAC) is turned on.
  • Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Windows > DWM.

  • If there is no DWM key,you need to create a new key and name it DWM.
  • Create a DWORD value named EnableMachineCheck and assign it a value of 0.
  • Create another DWORD value named Glass and give it a value of 1.
  • Create another DWORD value named Blur and give it a value of 0.
  • Create another DWORD value named Animations and give it a value of 0.
  • Close the Windows Vista registry editor window and restart your computer for the changes.

Note:

  • Although you can run Aero Glass feature on older hardware, with the lack of WDDM(Windows Display Driver Model) drivers, it is going to run very slowly.
  • Windows Aero is only available on Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Home Premium, and Windows Vista Ultimate. But it is possible to enable Aero Interface on your Windows Vista Home Basic PC.

Warning:

Modifying the Windows registry can cause serious damage to your Windows Operating System. It is better to backup your Windows registry data before making any changes. Tomstricks.com is not responsible for any changes you may make to your system.
