How To: Lock Folders In Windows Vista Or In XP Without Any Softwares
There are plenty of third party softwares are available, which locks drives and folder to protect your confidential data.By a simple trick you can easily lock any folder in Windows Vista or in XP.
- Consider you want to lock a folder in your C drive, whose path is c:\TOMSTRICKS(or anything you like)
- Open a notepad and type “ren TOMSTRICKS TOMSTRICKS.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}” without quotes.
- Save it as lock.bat in c:\ (Note that the folder name is repeated two times in the locking sequence)
- Again open another notepad and type “ren TOMSTRICKS.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} TOMSTRICKS” without quotes.
- Save it as key.bat in c:\.
- To lock the folder TOMSTRICKS, simply click the lock.bat and it will transform into control panel icon which is inaccessible.
- To unlock the folder click the key.bat file. Thus the folder will be unlocked and the contents are accessible.
Note:
Once you activate lock.bat, Control panel will be open if you try to open the folder. Keep the key.bat safely in your USB flash drive or so to unlock the folder later on.

Can’t anyone just create a new key? It seems that all you would need to do to defeat the locked folder would be to create your very own key using the trick posted here because you know the folder’s name! Am I crazy or properly concerned?
