Troubleshoot Internet Browsing Issues By Clearing And Reloading The DNS Client Cache In Windows Vista
If you’ve found yourself hitting DNS errors or 404 pages in your browser but you know your net connection is working fine, it might be time to flush and restart Windows Vista’s DNS cache.Some Internet browsing problems can be caused by invalid DNS cache entries stored on your Windows Vista PC.You can tackle this problem two ways, first by just clearing the cache, but also by restarting the DNS client service, which handles caching of DNS lookups.
How to Clear the DNS Cache in Windows Vista
For you to do this you would need to open up command prompt in Windows Vista with administrator rights. You simply need to right-click on the Command Prompt icon and hit on Run as Administrator.
Once command prompt is opened, you need to type in the following syntax or command:
ipconfig /flushdns
This command typically clears up any problems that might have been occurring. Please remember that if you are using a different web browser like Firefox, you should possibly also close and then re-open since Firefox also has its own DNS cache too.

First, start the Windows Vista run box (You can do this by pressing WINDOWS KEY + R) and then type in the following and click OK:
ipconfig /flushdns
This will briefly flash a DOS box up, confirming that the DNS cache has been flushed:
How to Restart the DNS Service from Windows Vista Command Prompt
Again, open up a command prompt in Windows Vista with administrator rights simply by right-clicking on the Command Prompt icon on the Start menu. Then proceed on typing in the following syntaxes or commands:
net stop dnscache
net start dnscache
How to Restart the DNS Service from Services
To do this you need to open up the Services dialog in the Control Panel or as an alternative type the word services inside the Start menu search box after you have clicked on the Pearl (Start menu). After opening the dialog or window, look for the service called “DNS Client” and hit on the button called Restart Service.
Note:The instructions above would also work for Windows XP operating system.
